First, I should say that I'm pretty new to MyDD. I'm one of those recent Obama folks that a lot of the Clinton partisans decry on the board. I'm an old contributor to DKos, but I got tired of the echo chamber. It really didn't seem that there was very much to be learned there. Although things get a bit prickly over here, I do enjoy the dialogue. There seem to be many reasonable and well intentioned contributors.

The reason for this diary is a marked difference I noticed today between similar diaries on the two sites. On both sites a diary was posted about some pretty inflammatory remarks by Rev. Hagee, the prominent extremist right wing minister who has endorsed John McCain.

If you go over to Daily Kos you will see that the diary has spent most of the day at the top of the recommended list. Personally I disagree. A witch hunt on the left is no different than a witch hunt on the right. It is inappropriate and clearly distorting to tie Barack Obama to the views of Rev. Wright. It is even more ridiculous to try to claim that John McCain shares Rev. Hagee's views. He clearly does not. To me, this sort of piling on on the left makes us no better than right wing zealots. We need to argue issues, not bring up sideshows.

That's why I'm so proud of MyDD. The same information was posted this afternoon and it quietly fell to the bottom of the diary list then off. No recommendations. The bonfires, at least for this issue, are not burning over here. It seems like a haven of reason compared to DKos at the moment.

So I'm happy to be here. And I'm looking forward to the conversation improving even more over the coming weeks as we focus on issues.

The GOP will do their thing and the MSM will eat it up. The sideshows get the press and sadly sway voters.

This is election is to important to just lay down and not fight back.

But whenever possible, we should use jujitsu (using an opponent's own weight against them) whenever possible.

After seeing Obama take on McCain in a few preliminary rounds, it confirmed my suspicion that he might be a master of this art.

John McCain seeks the endorsement of a violent bigot?

He is not McCains pastor, he is a political tool for him?

Wright was a clown, but I think all pastors are clowns.

Haggee is a hate mongerer, I will pile on that POS regardless of who he endorses.

He is an enemy to our state.

MyDD bloggers are pro Hillary Clinton. Bashing McCain about Hagee serves no purpose but to support Barack Obama, Hillary's competition for the Democratic Nomination. The truth is there is a double standard. If Obama is held accountable for Reverend Wright then the same standard should apply to all candidates to include John McCain. But as it stands, the standard only applies to Mr. Obama. MyDD like DKos wear blinders depending on the position they have staked out for their candidate or some political issue. We should all understand the differences between DKoS and MyDD bloggers and agree to disagree so that we can unite our efforts to beat the Republicans in November

already has. We should point out a contradiction if they do bring it up - I am mixed strategically if we should bring up Hagee if Repubs do not bring up Wright, as it will inevitably rehash Wright, which is not a good thing.

What I cannot understand is if we have a weapon to use and the other one draws same said weapon, why we should be above it, it would be bad for our health.

Ha, you can be proud of MYDD if you want, but in case you haven't noticed, this site is 100% primary 24-7. Maybe one diary a week not dealing with the primary makes it to the rec list. Countless good diaries are posted here but get no play b/c it has nothing to do with electing a president. Unfortunate but true.

Hell it already is (quite painfully slow).

I can't tell you how nice it is to think we have these huge differences, but take away our silly candidates and there is little we don't agree on.

Congrats on your first diary. You may not like my response but if Rev. Hagee was McCain's spiritual mentor, close friend and pastor for nearly 20 years then he, like Rev Wright does become a campaign issue.
Our Presidents choose cabinet members and make appointments based on judgement of character and historical performance. We need look no further back than GWB to see how a lack of good judgement in surrounding themselves with good people results in disaster for the American People and our Country. Examples: Brown, a horse trainer, in charge of Disaster Relief (FEMA), Nicholson, former chair of the RNC and former Ambassador to the pope, in charge of the Veterans Administrations Benefits and Healthcare system, politcal hacks instead of scientists being appointed heads of the CDC, EPA etc.
So a measurement of who you CLOSELY associated with for many years is an issue for consideraton. Not the whole of a candidate- but certainly an issue.

but it's total news to me if McCain's association with Hagee is anything more than a recent marriage of convenience. We he really his close friend and spiritual mentor for 20 years? I was not aware. I actually always assumed that McCain was a pretty secular guy.

John McCain at best is a sellout, and a person who sellsout to people like that are even worse (ie Joe Lieberman)

Hagee actively preaches hate, that other POS actively preaches violence.

Understand I don't respect these people as human beings.

You're right, Dr. Mark, this is a recent association with Hagee. Hagee endorsed McCainback in February, and that's when all this started.

Sad, but I guess maybe I'm trying to lay out some reverse mojo so people are embarrassed to do that. I think it's disgraceful how people who are supposedly on the left have spoken about Wright. My only explanation is that they come from parts of the country where they are few African Americans and have never been exposed to left wing African American preaching.

Why don't you just go back to your DK, Air America, CNN, MSNBC, MoveOn, etc., because you've all made it very clear that the Clintons and HRC supporters are not part of your so called "new politics"--playing the race and sexist cards to get your way. Moreover, according to you, our candidate and her supporters are nothing but Bush Lite.

From my perspective Obama has beaten Clinton without responding to any of her ridiculous posturing about having bigger balls than him. When she brought out her gas tax holiday, which was clearly an opportunistic pander, he didn't respond with heated rhetoric but with a cool, balanced response. I'm sure most people thought it wouldn't work, but guess what? It did. Obama is betting that people are tired of side shows and over heated rhetoric and are ready to judge issues more calmly in a way that reflects their better natures. And you know what, our country would be better without the overheated rhetoric as well.

nothing gets Rec'd here except for candidate diaries. This is a site for poorly constructed pro-Clinton diaries, and the occasional few who battle with utter futility against them.

You won't see Scott Kleeb or other progressive diaries on the Rec list here, because nobody bothers to Rec them. You won't see anything on the Rec list about the atrocities at Guantanamo or an in depth look at the social and ethnic structure of Puerto Rico.

Okay so you don't think that John Mccain has made Hagee relevant by actively seeking his endorsement. You don't think that legitimizes Hagee in some sort of way, which in turn makes Mccain culpable for his hate-spewed rhetoric(which is far more public and widely accepted than that of Jeremiah Wright, the guy wrote a book.)? That's your opinion, but a lot of people would disagree.

I see by your recent comments that it's not just that you disagree with going after Mccain using Hagee. You actually think Hagee's an alright guy.

"Why does it strike you as bizarre that someone would think that Hitler was an agent of God's will? Ramses was an agent of God's will. God "hardened his heart." For someone like Hagee, who bases his theology on direct reading of the scriptures, it makes perfect sense.

There should be much greater tolerance of evangelical points of view on the left. For one, they don't just involve right-wing whites. They also involve blacks who vote democratic. And there really is nothing so awful about what he said. He's a preacher. He's providing a religious perspective.

Hagee uses the bible as a platform for his hate. This isn't the type of religion that offers a guiding moral principle, it's religious zealotry. Arguing that Hagee is just a preacher with a unique religious perspective is like arguing that 911 was just a couple of guys exercising their right of religious expression. That was a bastardization of islam, very similar to what Hagee has done to Christianity.

Oh, and it's not just the jews by the way(in case you feel superior), most of us aren't exempt from the wrath of Hagee's God. Jews, Gays, Catholics and those who consort with any of the above.

It was my #1 choice in the blogosphere, and where I identified from the most.

now it's about #8.

Open left is where it's at.

But I hope after the primary, sanity and unity will prevail.

I never thought i'd ever be able to get behind John Kerry in 2004.

I'm suspicious of any Obama hack coming to this site and trying to ingratiate him-/herself to MyDD community. I know you've gotten your orders from on high to make peace with the HRC supporters, but we ain't buying! What you don't realize is that a huge chunk of the HRC supporters are moving on and have have already decided on a voting strategy in November. Sorry it doesn't include your guy.

There is no way an anti-Hagee/anti-McCain diary would make or stay atop the rec list here, given the current environment. Whether Hagee is or is not 'in play' is a separate question.

In fact, there is very little discussion of the trainwreck that is John McCain, his lobbyist ties, his now countless flip-flops, or his religious associations here at MyDD.

If Rev. Wright were to have another moment, that would be a very different story.

It's difficult to fathom.
